Culture Boxes
Hands-on activities and experiences
enhance any classroom lesson. Culture Boxes, representing
40 different countries, provide students a wonderful
opportunity to immerse themselves in elements of other
cultures. The boxes contain clothing, games, videos,
books, toys, musical instruments and other artifacts
from around the globe. Students can touch the objects,
try on the garments, play the games and actively learn
about the different cultures of the world. Many boxes
contain a curriculum to aid in classroom presentations.
Culture Boxes are available for use by schools and
community organizations, and have been presented in
classrooms, libraries, scouting club meetings, teacher
workshops and festivals.
The Tulsa Global Alliance Culture Box Program was
established in 1993. Extensive volunteer efforts from
area individuals and organizations help to create
and maintain the popular boxes. Five thousand people
have been served in schools throughout Oklahoma through
the Culture Box Program. |
Teachers across the state agree that Culture Boxes
promote critical thinking, avenues for visual, auditory
and tactile learners. Culture boxes provide teachers
with an educational tool to enhance classroom lessons
on any subject, and many boxes contain a curriculum
to aid in classroom presentations.
There are many creative ways to use culture boxes,
