How Well Do You Know Your Sister Cities?
Take the Sister City Quiz. (published in the April TGA Newsletter)

A key part of the Tulsa Global Alliance (TGA) focus, direction and activities involves Sister Cities Partnerships. After the merging of the International Council and Sister Cities International of Tulsa into TGA, the City of Tulsa entrusted TGA with oversight, guidance, and assistance for existing Sister City Partnerships and evaluation and recommendations of new International Cities for Partnerships. Under the auspices of the Sister Cities International Program, TGA has the role of approving the establishment of and thereafter maintenance and coordination of official Sister City relationships between the City of Tulsa and selected international cities in economic, cultural and educational spheres.

Currently, there are eight active partnerships with Sister Cities. Included are San Luis Potosi, Mexico; Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Beihai, China; Tiberias, Israel; Utsunomiya, Japan; Zelenograd, Russia; Celle, Germany; and Amiens, France. With educational, cultural and/or economic activities and programs involving the various cities, the eight Tulsa Sister City Partnerships have developed to their current levels through the dedication of volunteers, the assistance of other organizations and the support, coordination and facilitation of TGA.

Tulsa was honored as Best Overall Program for a city population of 300,000-500,000 at Sister Cities International's 50th Anniversary Conference in Washington, D.C. in July 2006. The commemorative award recognizes sister city programs which demonstrate the long-term sustainability of their sister city relationships/program.

“This outstanding award is recognition of the excellent work of an amazing staff and a truly effective, hard working group of volunteers who are committed to the importance of international understanding," said Karen Schafer, president and CEO of Tulsa Global Alliance.
