Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Since October 1980

Last September, Kaohsiung sent Ms. Eunice Hsu, assistant protocol officer, to Tulsa to particpate in two-weeks internship. She interned with Tulsa Global Alliance, the City Council and the Mayor's office during her time in Tulsa.

In July 2005, Tulsa Police Department's Mounted Patrol Unit was invited to Taiwan to help celebrate the implementation of a mounted patrol in Kaohsiung's Police Bureau. During the celebration, Tulsa officers, Lori Miller, BK Williams, Greg Evans and Sergeant Dave Davis rode in a Parade and then joined Kaohsiung's Mounted Patrol for a demonstration on Cijin Beach. Officers also visted the Kaohsiung Police Bureau and other cultural sites.

Tulsa has participated in the Taiwan Area Games, bringing home four medals. The festivities surrounding the games provide a glimpse of Chinese culture and tradition. Not surprisingly, the Kaohsiung Youth Folk Sports Troupe has dazzled Tulsa audiences in their Tulsa performances.

News: Taiwan is reaching out to the International Community
The Houston Taiwan Academy is launching, having officially opened Friday October 14, at the Taipei Cultural Center in Houston. An opening ceremony took place at 1:00pm, followed by commemorative video remarks from President Ma of The Republic of China. A brief introduction of the purpose and mission of the Academy was explained. There was also a Sinological seminar from 14:00pm to 17:00pm at the Academy.

The purpose of the Taiwan Academy is to serve as a platform for cultural exchanges so as to share with Sinophiles from all over the world the rich heritages of Chinese cultures in Taiwan.

The Taiwan Academy will stand on three important pillars of study:
1) Taiwan Studies and sinological research
2) research into Taiwan’s cultures
3) the promotion of Mandarin learning with traditional Chinese characters.

A Virtual Taiwan Academy will also be established in the near future to serve as a digital platform for more cultural exchange with a wider range of studies across borders.
