About Zelenograd, Russia 
Tulsa's Sister City since July 1992
Zelenograd is one of the prefects of Moscow with a population of approximately 180,000, 40% having advanced graduate degrees. In the 20th century, it was a major industrial center for electronics and microelectronics, producing much of the Russian space program's technology.
On the cusp of the 21st century, Zelenograd has reinforced its role at Russia's nanotechnology and bioinformatics hub. The city has also incorporated a special economic zone with an incubator for innovative business start-ups. Zelenograd's educational institutions, research labs, and hi-tech businesses will subcontract key orders for the Skolkovo complex, touted as Russia's "Silicon Valley."
Blending technological advancement and environmental concerns, Zelenograd (which means "green city" in Russian) has created a green belt to preserve its natural surroundings. It is known across Russia as both a prestigious, clean-air residential community with great infrastructure and as a research-and-business hive strategically located minutes away from the Moscow megapolis and the Sheremetyevo airport.
