Tulsa participates in the Sister Cities International Program, which aims to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, & cooperation - one individual, one community at a time. Tulsa currently has eight Sister Cities around the world. Each partnership plans cultural, educational and economic exchanges to allow citizens from each community the opportunity to learn more about their world neighbors.

As part of the United States' effort to assist the former USSR with its transition to a free market economy, the United States Department of State launched the Business for Russia (BFR) project in late 1993. The Community Connections Program is an outgrowth of BFR and includes other countries which were part of the former USSR. Tulsa Global Alliance supports many educational programs, and partners with other organizations having similar educational goals. Tulsa Global Alliances' global education programs are in place in area school systems and among area residents to better prepare individuals for life in a multicultural world. Educational programs include the Culture Box Program, hands-on authentic boxes of activities and cultural artifacts representing 40
countries, available for rental and make a great addition to any classroom presentation; the Global Youth Alliance (GYA), open to youth interested in broadening their global horizons and meeting students from around the world and the Sister Cities Young Artists Program, an annual art contest between Tulsa area students and Tulsa's eight sister cities young artists. Winners of the local contest compete in the national competition.

International understanding and economic development go hand-in-hand; therefore, through a joint-venture partnership between the Tulsa Global Alliance and the University of Tulsa College of business Administration, TGA offers international business seminars to help local companies learn about doing business in the global marketplace by addressing more general understanding with programs that focus on country and regional agendas and specific international business issues such as freight forwarders, currency exposure or sourcing leads.
