Today, TGA celebrates 40-plus years of serving the Tulsa community by advocating for and furthering the principles of "citizen diplomacy" through our international visitor programs, our Sister Cities relationships, our global education efforts, and our trade and business seminars.

Tulsa Global Alliance is the merged organization of the International Council of Tulsa (ICT) and Sister Cities International of Tulsa (SCIT). The City of Tulsa designated TGA as the organization responsible for managing its Sister Cities activities. The two separate organizations were merged into TGA in 1995.

The International Council of Tulsa began in 1976 by volunteers and the Metropolitan Tulsa Chamber of Commerce. Sister Cities International of Tulsa was organized by volunteers under the auspices of Mayor Terry Young in 1986. As a result of the merger, TGA was able to remove duplications of effort and was able to better tie together the individual program goals of the separate organizations with the broader objectives of Tulsa's educational, cultural, and economic goals.

The City of Tulsa

The City of Tulsa and Mayor G.T. Bynum support Tulsa Global Alliance and its mission by including TGA in the annual budget.

TGA coordinates and staffs activities involving Tulsa's relationship with its eight International Sister Cities, and promotes and provides opportunities for cultural diversification, economic development, and tourism.

Banners for our eight International Sister Cities are displayed outside the Council Chamber on the second floor of City Hall.

TULSA CITY COUNTY LIBRARY

TGA enjoys an ongoing partnership with the Tulsa City-County Library. Annually, the library hosts TGA's World In a Box Day, a community-wide event featuring TGA’s Culture Boxes with booths and representatives from numerous countries. Our 2019 event had more than 1000 attendees!

The library has been instrumental in partnering with TGA to deliver cultural interactive events for children and families, and our Sister Cities have been well represented at library festivals.
